The name

Habitat + innovation

Habinova is short for habitat innovation. The two words describe the two halves of our work: the ecological foundation, and the practical model that lets it scale.

Habitats, because that is what actually supports life on a site — not ornament, and not seed scattered and left to chance. Innovation, because creating habitat on developed land has to become planned, repeatable and measurable before it can reach the scale of the land around energy, transport and industry.

Founded in 2026, Habinova brings both together: practical ecological knowledge from Suomen Niittysiemen with new models for scalable biodiversity infrastructure.

Habinova is a family-run company. Together we bring decades of international business experience and nearly a decade of hands-on work with Finnish native meadow plants.

Kristina Luhtala

Kristina Luhtala leads Habinova with a clear ambition: to make biodiversity a practical part of how land and infrastructure are developed.

She has spent nearly a decade building hands-on expertise in native meadow plants, seed production and projects for professional clients through Suomen Niittysiemen.

With Biodiversity Paths, she brings that knowledge together with a new approach to creating locally rooted biodiversity solutions at scale.

For nearly two years she has been developing the building blocks behind Biodiversity Paths, so the solution rests on a repeatable model rather than a one-off planting plan.

Habinova was founded by father and daughter Carl-Axel Schauman and Kristina Luhtala.
